The Nars Holy Trinity; Dragon Girl, Cruella and Red Square

Some people have referred to the Urban Decay Naked palettes as the holy trinity (ok, maybe even myself...) but today I want to gush about an entirely different holy trinity... ladies, I'm talking about the only 3 red lip colours you could ever need and they all belong to Velvet Matte Lip Pencil line from Nars.

Just look at them in all their beauty...

Dragon Girl

This was the first of the 3 that I bought and I instantly fell in love. It is such an easy red to wear, it's not too in your face loud. As you can hopefully see from the swatches above, Dragon Girl very has a definite pink undertone to it which softens it and makes it so easy to wear. Don't let me lead you down the wrong road though, this still has some 'pow!' to it, if you know what I mean. Definitely a great starting point for people not so comfortable with reds.

Cruella

First off, can I just say how much I love the name of this? Love a Disney reference. I do think it is aptly named though as this is the most vampy and daring of the trio. It's a very deep red, almost burgundy in colour. This isn't for the faint hearted and certainly packs a punch but I think it looks so beautiful, especially at this time of year. I'll be wearing this a lot come party season next month!

Red Square

I've saved my favourite for last. Words can't tell you how much I love this one. It's one of those orange toned reds that seems to be universally flattering (in similar vein to MAC Lady Danger) and instantly brightens the complexion. I wear this year round and think it looks equally flattering with a tan in summer as it does on a pale English rose.

The Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are all (obviously) matte in finish and have incredibly staying power. Their longevity is why I love them so much (I rarely need to touch them up) but it does come with a little downfall, as as with all matte lip products they do have a tendancy to be a little drying. I don't think this comes across physically  as I don't notice my lips looking dry in the mirror but I often find my lips feeling a little dehydrated if that makes sense? It's nothing major though and totally worth it.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils retail for £18 each and are available from all Nars stockists; I get mine from John Lewis.
