Christmas Gift Ideas 2010

Hi everyone! I thought I would do something a little different today and post one of my own articles. I write for my university's student newspaper every fortnight, and have my very own little beauty section in the fashion pages. This week I was given the task to come up with some beauty gift ideas for Christmas. Hope you like my post and a little insight into what I write about outside of blogging!

£25 and Under:

Urban Decay Shadow Box, £22.50 Debenhams

To celebrate Urban Decay’s tenth birthday, they have packed their 10 best selling eyeshadows into one magical palette. It is a very neutral, wearable palette that is sure to suit all you make-up needs. The slim, matte black case comes with a perfectly sized mirror and sponge-tip applicators. It also has a magnetic closure, ensuring it will stay closed in your handbag.

£20 and Under:

Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Gloss Gift Set, £19.50 Boots

Yes, it’s official, big pouting lips are possible without any injections. This is an ideal gift set for that friend we all have – the one which is constantly applying lip-gloss, day and night!

This Soap and Glory set contains three extreme lip plumping glosses, which contain scientifically proven plumping superfill microspheres that explode in volume of up to ten times when they come in contact with moisture. They're like tiny, dehydrated little sponges that expand when you put them onto your lips. As you apply the gloss, you can feel the magic happening as your lips tingle.

The glosses included are: Plum Juice gloss, Baby Doll gloss and Half Naked gloss. They are three very different, yet very universal, shades to suit all.

£15 and Under:

Bare Minerals Try.Believe.Love. Kit, £15 Debenhams

Bare Minerals is fast becoming the go-to make-up choice for millions of women of all ages, skin types and skin concerns. All of Bare Minerals make-up is 100% pure minerals, designed to give you complexion perfection without the harsh chemicals, such as preservatives. Some people claim this make-up is so good that you can sleep in it and still maintain perfect skin– but we wouldn’t recommend trying this!

This kit is an amazing starter kit for a friend or family member who has never dabbled with mineral make-up. Even better, you can choose from Light, Medium or Dark – perfect for everyone.

In this kit you get:

· 2 shades of Bare Minerals SPF15 Foundation – designed to easily allow you to find your perfect match.

· Bare Minerals Mineral Veil – the ultimate finishing powder to help you stay shine-free all day long.

· Bare Minerals Warmth All Over Face Colour – to give you a sunkissed glow.

· Bare Minerals Flawless Application Face Brush – designed specifically for buffing Bare Minerals products onto your skin.

£10 and Under:

OPI Ire Swiss Ables Collection Mini Set, £9.99 beautybay.com

OPI nail polishes are popular with nail salons, celebrities and beauty lovers alike. However, at nearly £10 a pop they are quite pricey. This fantastic mini set of for just £9.99 is an absolute bargain and perfect for a friend with expensive taste. The Swiss collection has a very Christmassy vibe, and this is reflected in the gift set. The set contains Colour So Hot It Berns (a vibrant red), Yodel Me On My Cell (shimmering blue) and Lucertainly Look Marvelous (shimmery pewter). On top of this, you will get RapiDry – their fast dry top coat.

£5 and Under:

The Body Shop Gift Cube, £5 The Body Shop

These little gift boxes are perfect for Secret Santa’s, work friends or extra stocking fillers. At £5, with £8 worth of product inside, they are a steal!

Inside you get a shower gel, body lotion and shower puff. My top pick is the very delicate and girly Japanese Cherry Blossom.

Other choices include: Strawberry, White Musk, Coconut, Mango or Moroccan Rose.

Hope you guys liked this,

Happy Thanksgiving - What I'm Thankful For

Hello everyone. Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends and followers. I'm from the UK so we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here but I wish we did as I think we all need to have a day to give thanks and remember why we are so lucky.

Today I am thinking about how lucky I was to have spent my summer working in America. I am thinking about all my American friends that I was so lucky to meet. I miss them tonnes!

This Thanksgiving I am thankful for:

1. My mum - as I am getting older, I have come to realise how important my mum is to me. She's my best friend and parent all rolled in to one. Where would I be without her? I dread to think.

2. My health

3. My friends, and as of right now, more importantly the people I live with at university. Special friendships that have happened by chance.

4. The right to education

5. Travel. I am so thankful for how lucky I've been to see so many places in this world.

What are you guys thankful for?

Purchase of The Week 19/11/10

Hello everyone, just popping by for a short and sweet post. About a week or so ago I picked up this gorgeous, stripey top from H&M. It was a steal at just £7.99 !

It has gorgeous ruffly short sleeves, which makes it perfect for smart daywear or some relaxed evening-wear. I team mine with skinny jeans. It is also pretty long, nearly long enough to cover your bum - great for legging wearers!

I have really worn this top to death and I haven't even had it a fortnight yet. I love it when you find a great steal like this. It also comes in black so I'm tempted to pick that up too!

What has been your purchase of the week?

Purchase of The Week 2

Hello everyone! Recently I have been obsessed with shopping on eBay - I'd totally forgot how many bargains you could grab on there. Having received these heels from ebay today I thought it was quite fitting to do a 'purchase of the week' post.

These Topshop metallic platforms set me back just £4.99 on ebay! Crazy! About two years ago I bought the black version of these in my local Topshop for £65 - so to get them for a fiver on ebay is amazing. What makes this purchase even more amazing is that I wore my black version of the heels to death - I wore them on nearly every night out for a year and eventually they had to be binned. I never got over the loss of the shoes as they were so comfortable and I hadn't found a pair that were as comfy since.

Below: me wearing the heels - love the metallic look, a bit different to my black ones but still very neutral.

I already know I'm going to wear these babies to death! I am in love all over again :)

So that is my purchase of the week. I highly suggest you guys go take a peak on ebay and grab yourself a bargain ! There is nothing better than finding a bargain :) it has made my week.

FOTD 11/11/10

Hello everyone! I have a little time to spare before going to uni right now so I thought I'd do you all a FOTD. Sorry the quality isn't very good - it is a Photobooth job!

MAC Studio Fix Fluid NC15 + NC20 Mixed
MAC MSF Natural in Medium to set the foundation
Benefit Coralista blush
Nars Laguna bronzer

MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
Max Factor Masterpiece Max Mascara in Black

(and that's it! Today I felt like having a more natural eye and a brighter lip)

MAC 'Petals and Peacocks' lipstick (LE from Liberty of London collection)

This lipstick is my favourite! If I could wear it everyday I would - but seeing as it's LE I'm trying to save it :)

Lush Haul

Hello everyone! Last week I made a little trip to Lush to stock up on some bath stuff.
Thought I would show you my haul as there is a couple of new products I've tried and have some things to say about them :)

Fizz Banger ballistic (top left) £2.95
This was a bit boring at first, and smells nothing like it's promises of being a 'toffe apple banger' but it did smell great. It is more fresh and lemony in my opinion. It was perfect for a pick-me-up bath before I starting writing an essay one evening. It started fizzing slowly then suddenly just starting bombing around the bath, with a blue centre being revealed as it fizzed. What made me chuckle was it had two pieces of paper saying "Boom!" and "Bang!" just like the Blackberry Bath Bomb. Would recommend this but would probably not repurchase.

Mrs Whippy ballistic (top right) £2.50
This smells delicious! Just like vanilla ice cream in fact. It felt surprisingly moisturising considering it is a bath bomb, and this is a definite plus for me. I'd also say it was easy enough (but a bit crumbly) to cut in to 2 to make it last 2 baths instead of 1. I will definitely repurchase this!

Cinders ballistic (bottom left) £1.95
An oldie but a goodie! I loved it last Christmas and I love it this Christmas. It is a spicey, cinnamon scented ballistic that crackles like a fire. It is just lovely and I know I will be repurchasing this multiple times this winter. Got to love Cinders.

Candy Cane bubble bar (bottom right) £2.35
Another product that is an oldie but a goodie. As you can see in the photo, I had already snapped a third off to use in a bath. I just love this, it smells very similar to the famous Snow Fairy. It's just very sweet and girly. This is already a repurchase for me, so I cannot recommend it enough.

Something else I have been loving recently is the Glade candles. The red one smells amazing, it's very warming as it smells like cinnamon. A fantastic winter candle. These have been accompanying me with my Lush baths.

And finally, the last thing I want to talk about is the National Demolition in London this Wednesday. That's my ticket above. If your university is participating, I strongly urge you to pick up a ticket and tag along. It's going to be masses of students on the streets of London campaigning against the student cuts and rise in tuition fees.

My Halloween Look

Hello everyone! I know this is like 5 days late but I wanted to show you all what make-up I wore for Halloween. I was a boring old devil and instead of going for the classic red lip I decided to darken my eyes up a lot and have a nude lip.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation (1/4 NC15 mixed with 3/4 NC20)
Bare Minerals Mineral Veil
Nars Orgasm blush
Benefit Speed Brow Brow Gel

MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study
MAC Greasepaint stick (Limited Edition)
Chanel Mystic Eyes Eyeshadow Quad - the silver colour is patted all over the lid
Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Zero - top and bottom lashlines
MaxFactor Masterpiece Max Mascara in Black

YSL Rouge Pur lipstick in 148 Tea Rose

Et voila, that was my look. Not very scary at all but the full on dark eyes is not something I'd usually go for - and I loved it. Above is a cropped photo of me on actual Hallowen :) lots of fun.

Hope you guys have brilliant weekend - happy bonfire night! Stay safe!
